LCentrals Success is a complete English literacy programme exclusively developed for primary school students. It is embedded with values education and closely follows the MOE syllabus. Success teaches advanced English language skills, coaching students to master both written and oral communication. The programme’s ultimate objective is to instil confidence and propel students to their personal best on the PSLE.

LCentrals Success programme comprises three stages:

  • Stage 1: Success 1, Success 2 and Success 3
  • Stage 2: Preparation for PSLE
  • Stage 3: PSLE Success

The early years of primary school are very important for your child. It’s the time to lay a good foundation, while also build a sense of achievement and gain the confidence to excel. Students who do not do well in the first few years of primary school may lose confidence in their ability and develop a sense of failure.

LCentrals new and revised Success Stage 1 WorkBooks, catering specifically to lower primary curriculum, give your child the unfair advantage. Closely following the MOE syllabus and STELLAR Guidelines, the revised WorkBooks lead your child step-by-step through each of the language components upon which your child is assessed at school, giving them the competence and confidence to experience success.

* What makes Success better than other primary programmes?

LCentral’s Success programme is an intensive and comprehensive one.

In addition to instilling a lifelong love for the English language, explicit instruction of grammar skills, comprehension and writing strategies and techniques, reviewing of clues in deriving answers, as well as time management skills, are embedded in our programme. The question styles are closely aligned with those in school internal examinations and eventually the PSLE to ensure students are fully prepared and stretched to achieve their personal best.

Your child’s progress is also closely monitored to ensure their strengths and weaknesses are identified in a timely manner while catering to their individual needs.

* What is different about the LCentral Success Stage 1 and why has this happened?

Following changes that Singapore’s MOE made to the PSLE English exam that were introduced in the Year of Exam 2015, LCentral revised Preparation for PSLE and PSLE Success.

These changes have now filtered down to the lower primary levels, so LCentral has thoroughly revised Success 1, Success 2 and Success 3 to ensure your child is conversant with the newly revised MOE English language examination question styles as per the STELLAR Guidelines.

My child struggles with Continuous Writing (i.e. Composition Writing). How does LCentral help him/her improve?

LCentral has developed a systematic and progressive writing plan that guides students through each step of the writing process.

Students begin by -

  • analysing the key topic words;
  • interpreting each visual cue through the use of prompts; and then
  • forming relevant connections that form the basis of a plausible and coherent plot (story line).

Helping words and phrases enrich student vocabulary and guide students in forming and expressing story ideas. 

At the beginning stages of Success 1, guided sentence structures help students to formulate grammatically correct sentences that convey meaning clearly and fluently. By Success 3, students are taught creative writing techniques that inject an added flair and polish to their narratives.

* My child requires more practice in Oral Communication. How can LCentral help?

Oral language development is a strong component in all stages of Success. Students are encouraged from very early on, to develop opinions and express these appropriately and confidently while listening and accepting different points of views.  The Values’ education embedded in the curriculum, creates numerous opportunities for children to speak and voice their opinions ‘safely’ and expressively. 

Each LCentral Success WorkBook contains reading aloud passages that focus on specific areas aligned with MOE’s Oral Assessment Criteria, such as pronunciation, stress on key words, variation of tone in dialogue, etc.

For Stimulus-based Conversation, the topics and question styles are closely aligned with what is tested in schools. Key vocabulary is also provided to help students develop their personal responses fully and relevantly.

* What learning materials will guide my child to success?

LCentral WorkBooks – Each LCentral WorkBook comprises exercises and assignments that are completed in an interactive classroom environment where active learning takes place.

* How does LCentral reinforce the acquisition of skills and classroom learning?

Most of the exercises and assignments are completed during lesson time. Corrections and the copying out of final copies of writing tasks (after they have been marked and corrected) are usually assigned as homework. Students learn from their mistakes and hone their writing skills through the process of completing these tasks.

Moreover, each lesson is followed by a homework page that reviews and reinforces some of the key concepts taught and practised in the lesson.

Moreover, our small class sizes allow teachers to develop a personal understanding of each child’s learning needs, facilitating individualised feedback and comments that assist student progress.

How is Student progress monitored?

LCentral maintains high standards when tracking students’ progress.

A Student’s progress throughout Success stages 1, 2 and 3 is monitored using LCentral’s English Language Outcomes, in conjunction with the MOE Assessment Guidelines and STELLAR. Teachers use Outcomes Records to track each student’s progress, allowing teachers to cater to the student’s individual learning needs.

Student WorkBooks are utilised by teachers as another on-going record of your child’s learning. Teachers readily and thoroughly comment throughout the WorkBook and with regards activities in a manner that supports and enhances the learning process.

* How is Student progress reported to Parents?

In addition to the WorkBook comments mentioned above, parents are offered individual Parent-Teacher Meetings every term [11 weeks]. These meetings ensure that any areas of concern parents may have, (or may have been raised at school) are addressed.

In addition to this, written Reports are distributed to parents at the end of Term 2 (June) and Term 4 (December).

Teachers are readily available at other times for parents to arrange appointments as may be required.
