CreativeWriting

LCentral’s CreativeWriting programme is written specifically to give primary students the necessary language skills that take their composition writing to the next level.

In order to write a good composition that grabs the reader’s attention, students need to understand both the structure and language requirements of compositional writing.

CreativeWriting WorkBooks, both ‘Exploring Narratives’ and ‘Understanding Narratives’, include Model Compositions and Language activities to explicitly guide students in the fundamentals of writing impressive compositions.  ‘Understanding Narratives’ follows the revised MOE continuous writing style.

Whether a composition task is based on a series of pictures, a single scene or topic focus words the components to writing a good composition are the same.

CreativeWriting students focus explicitly on:

  • narrative writing structure;
  • paragraph sequencing;
  • first and third person perspective;
  • expressive direct speech;
  • effective figurative language;
  • powerful descriptive vocabulary; and
  • self-editing skills.

Through teacher guided discussion using LCentral’s WritingPlans, students compose an array of compositions putting into place their newly taught writing skills.

Independent Learning Sessions [ILS]

A ‘value added service’ proudly offered by LCentral to enrich your child’s comprehension and vocabulary skills.

Independent Learning Sessions are specific comprehension enrichment sessions available exclusively to Success students in LCentral Centres.

  • Using Comprehension Boxes, students work independently through multi-level comprehension cards. These appealingly designed cards cover a wide range of fiction and non-fiction topics.
  • Students read the texts and answer questions independently. The colourfully illustrated cards are designed in a manner that motives students to succeed in answering progressively more challenging comprehension questions as they progress through the levels.
  • Students complete the comprehension cards at their own individual level and pace. The sessions are guided by an ILS Instructor and students’ progress is tracked and monitored.
